Knots Explained

Knots.co.za provides wind speed information free of charge. If you can access the internet, you should have no problems accessing our services.

Since you are obviously connected to the internet when reading this, this section will mainly focus on accessing the knots pages from other devices that can access the internet such as your mobile phone.

A simple test is to try and browse to www.google.com with your phone, if you get the familiar Google home page, all is well. Simply browse to www.knots.co.za and you should see the knots mobile home page.

If you do not know how to access the internet with your phone, have a look at the instruction manual for your device or contact your service provider for some professional support

If you are trying to access the internet with your mobile device and are encountering errors, you might need to obtain the internet configuration settings for your network. For South African networks you can try the following.

MTN: Dial *123*13#

Vodacom: Dial *111# (Option 4 or 5)

CellC: Send an SMS containing SMARTDATA to 084 155 9911 (Free SMS)

Virgin Mobile: Go to the Virgin Mobile Menu on your phone and select "Virgin Settings". When prompted to download the settings, reply "YES".

If you are still unable to connect to the internet with your mobile device, please contact your service provider.

So hopefully that was relatively painless. You should now be connected and ready to browse to the mobile pages. We have two sets of pages that are available for mobile devices. They are the Graphics and Text pages. The graphics pages have some color distinction and should display in a structured table if your phone supports the styling. The text pages are pure text only and should be able to be viewed by all devices.

If you have trouble viewing the pages or they do not display correctly, we suggest you can try the Opera Mini Browser. We suggest trying the Opera Mini Beta 4. We have tested this browser with many different devices (Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, Samsung and HTC) and found it to work the best.

To download Opera Mini Beta 4, browse to http://mini.opera.com/beta with your mobile device.

Make sure to uncheck "fit to page" in the Opera browser settings. If this is not done, the graphics pages may not display correctly.

If you are experiencing problems with the graphics pages on your device, you can use the text pages. They are minimal and have no styling, but they display exactly the same information.

So now you should be able view the knots pages from nearly everywhere. Happy browsing.
